Inspired by new movie based on his own life Eddie the Eagle, Eddie Edwards will be taking to the slopes to once again complete a ski jump at the Winter Olympic site in Courchevel, where he will be joined by four complete beginners.
Jumping to raise money for the charity Ski 4 Cancer, the four novice skiers will be training in Courchevel from 19th-29th January and building up to jump the 90 meter Ski jump at the end of the week. They will jump alongside Eddie, who hasn’t himself launched off Olympic sized jumps for over 20 years. Eddie will play a key part in their training alongside trainers from the French national team.
Organised by Chris and Lucie Learoyd of Alp Leisure Ltd, a luxury chalet operator based in Courchevel and Meribel, the event has already attracted a lot of attention and the support of the resort itself. Chris Learoyd comments, ‘both our sons have grown up here and they are very active ski jumpers themselves, with Jonty heading to the 2016 Youth Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer in February. We wanted to do something special to help raise awareness for Ski 4 Cancer whilst introducing the sport of ski jumping to ordinary people who might never had tried it for themselves’.
Eddie said ‘I am really looking forward to taking on the 90 meter jump after all this time. Watching the new film Eddie The Eagle bought so many memories back – the story, with its struggles, the rejections, and the jumps were all exactly as I remembered them, and really inspired me to dust off my skis for this great cause. Being able to introduce these beginners to the sport I love is really exciting I really hope the film will encourage lots of other people to give it a go too.’
