Either the chart topping Brit is either a massive Bond fan, or he’s let the ball drop with his latest tweet. At 4pm today he posted a picture showing what appears to be him wearing a ring bearing the mark of Spectre, as emblazoned on the promotional artwork for the upcoming Bond movie of the same name.

Speculation has been mounting for some time, with an announcement imminent, though attention drifted sharply towards either Ellie Goulding or Radiohead following a series of high bets. Others in the frame included Adele and bizarrely Miley Cyrus, but Sam Smith was the early favourite and many still suspected, if not hoped, that he would be recording this year’s much anticipated title track.
Spectre is the 24th film in the Bond franchise and Daniel Craig’s fourth outing as 007, but the theme song has often taken on a life of its own with huge hits including Goldfinger, Live and Let Die and 2012’s Oscar winning Skyfall.
Nothing has been confirmed yet, so either this is a cruel joke or a dead giveaway.
