Tom Hardy Could Be the Next Bond

It seems Mr. Hardy has finally cracked mainstream audiences, and his latest film hasn’t even been released yet, leading bookies and audiences to suspect if he will be the next James Bond.

Tom Hardy is soon to be seen playing both Kray twins the upcoming Legend – a film which may just take awards season by storm based on the promising trailer and the buzz that follows. However, with Daniel Craig departing from the 007 franchise after Spectre, speculation is mounting on who will take his place. Many names have been touted including Idris Elba, who is perhaps most likely at the moment, but Tom Hardy is now firmly in the frame, with his odds being slashed by the day.

According to Oddschecker, both Damian Lewis and Idris Elba are getting roughly 3/1, but a recent surge in bets for Tom Hardy has pushed him up to third, getting approximately 4/1 odds. Selma star David Oyelowo, Superman Henry Cavill and jobsworth Michael Fassbender are also in the frame but remain as outsiders.

It seemed a done deal only a few months ago when reports where almost confirming that Elba had been unofficially offered the role, but nothing has been announced. Meanwhile, one of the authors of a recent official Bond novel has sparked controversy by saying Elba would be ‘too street’ for Bond.

Hardy is the typical Brit, he has age on his side and not a massive A-list image to rebrand. Legend will certainly do him favours, and he has a lot of fans on his side lobbying hard on his behalf. However, with so many quality actors to choose from, the question really comes down to who looks the part and who nails the audition.

What do you think? Who will or should be the next Bond?
