Will Smith is attempting some sort of comeback, with a few films that demonstrate enough versatility to put him on the radar, and then Concussion. Smith stars as Dr. Omalu, a doctor who diagnoses the first football-related brain trauma and fights to get the truth known.
It’s very American but at the same time challenging a quintessential American institution, and it clearly wants to find its spot in the awards race. Seems a bit ambitious, but it looks like a nice little drama. Concussion is in UK cinemas from 29th January 2016.
Will Smith stars in Concussion, a dramatic thriller based on the incredible true David vs. Goliath story of American immigrant Dr. Bennet Omalu, the brilliant forensic neuropathologist who made the first discovery of CTE, a football-related brain trauma, in a pro player and fought for the truth to be known. Omalu’s emotional quest puts him at dangerous odds with one of the most powerful institutions in the world.
