Disney have announced they are revisiting their Oscar winning 1992 animated hit Aladdin to produce a live-action prequel about the genie.
Following a year full of new live-action projects in which Disney are revamping their entire animated back catalogue including Beauty and the Beast, Pinnochio, Mulan, Dumbo and more, they are now turning their attention to one of their biggest box offices successes. Aladdin spawned two sequels and made over $500 million at the box office, so it was only a matter of time.
Genies will focus on the years prior to the events of the first movie and, as the title suggests, put the genie in the lamp front and centre as the main protagonist.
Robin Williams famously voiced the genie in Aladdin, but there is no news yet as to who will be chosen to follow in his big blue footsteps. Comment below with your suggestions.
