It’s been almost twenty years in the making, but we finally got our first teeny little peek at Independence Day Resurgence, the first of a two part sequel due out in June 2016.
At the press event, held on set in New Mexico, director Roland Emmerich was joined on stage by stars Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth and Bill Pullman and other members of the cast. They were asked questions about the new film, but it was the big spaceship prop behind them that was arguably the most revealing.
The notable absence of Will Smith from the cast suggests his character probably died in the interim, but fear not because Jessie Usher plays his grown up son to continue the Hiller legacy.
Independence Day Resurgence is set in the present day, two decades after the events of the first film. Earth has been preparing for a counter-attack, but nothing can prepare our heroes for what the aliens have in store.
